REGISTRATION UTMB WORLD SERIES FINALS VIA THE LOTTERY
Runners wishing to enter the UTMB World Series Finals (UTMB, CCC, OCC) have to go through the lottery. To enter the lottery, they need to have:
- at least one Running Stone acquired in the previous two years AND
- a valid UTMB Index in the category corresponding to the Final.
RUNNING STONES
A Running Stone provides one entry in the lottery to participate in the UTMB World Series Finals. You can collect Running Stones by finishing a 20K, 50K, 100K or 100M race of the UTMB World Series circuit. Running Stones are recorded on your runner’s account and each Running Stone improves your odds in the lottery.
UTMB INDEX
- To enter the OCC lottery, runners need a valid and up to date UTMB Index in the 20K, 50K, 100K or 100M category.
- To enter the CCC lottery, runners need a valid and up to date UTMB Index in the 50K, 100K or 100M category.
- To enter the UTMB lottery, runners need a valid and up to date UTMB Index in the 100K or 100M category.
A valid UTMB Index is achieved by completing at least one UTMB World Series race or a UTMB Index Race in the relevant category within the previous 24 months.
Runners may register as a 'Group'. A group may consist of runners owning a different number of Running Stones. In this case, members of the group participate in the lottery with the number of Running Stones of the member of the group that owns the least number of Running Stones. If the group is selected via the lottery, only the number of Running Stones used will disappear from each member’s stock.
Example:
- Runner 1: 3 Running Stones
- Runner 2 : 2 Running Stones
- Runner 3: 1 Running Stones
During the draw, 1 Running Stones is taken from each (the smallest number of Running Stones).
IF accepted after the draw:
- Runner 1: 2 Running Stones
- Runner 2: 1 Running Stones
- Runner 3 : 0 Running Stones
In case of a negative draw, the Running Stones will be credited back to each runner's account.
Access to the UTMB World Series Finals is reserved for elite athletes who have qualified in the previous 15 months. Qualification can be achieved as follows:
UTMB World Series Event: The top 3 men and women at each Event (in the 50K, 100K and 100M category) win direct entry into the corresponding Final.
UTMB World Series Major: The top 10 men and women at each Major (in the 50K, 100K and 100M category) win direct entry into the corresponding Final.
If a UTMB World Series Event offers several races in the same category, only one of those races will be considered a qualifying race for elite runners to enter the corresponding Final and elites should choose their race accordingly.
CHANGE OF RACE CATEGORY
The top 10 men and women (UTMB World Series Majors) and top 3 men and women (UTMB World Series Events) win direct entry into the corresponding Final. Runners may request to change category, this will be assessed based on the runners performance and availability in the other race, changes are not guranteed. Requests must be recieved before June 15th to the Race Direction (info@utmb.world).
LUCKY LOSER
If any of the top 10 men and women (UTMB World Series Majors) and top 3 men and women (UTMB World Series Events) decide not to use their reserved place to participate in the UTMB World Series Finals, the reserved bibs will be reallocated in the first half of June.
These reserved bibs, as well as any other bibs available for any other reason, will be available for runners who have completed at least one UTMB World Series Event or UTMB World Series Major 50K, 100K, or 100M race in the previous year. Runners will be ranked according to their best UTMB Index. If a runner does not take the reserved bib, it will be offered to the next runner; and so on until all bibs are allocated.
RACES TAKING PLACE LESS THAN 3 MONTHS BEFORE THE UTMB® WORLD SERIES FINALS
The qualifying period is open for 15 months to allow for athletes to schedule their running and rest periods. Therefore, runners qualifying 3 months or less before the UTMB World Series Finals may choose to participate in the same or following year's UTMB World Series Final.
In some cases, we might consider giving a wild card to a runner who would like to run a shorter distance the current year and compete in the category for which they qualified the following year.
ENTRY THROUGH AGE CATEGORY RANKING
Entering the UTMB World Series Finals is also possible through the age category ranking, for UTMB World Series Majors finishers only.
The rules are as follows:
- 55 bibs are allocated for age categories at each Major
- At least one race bib is allocated for each age category represented at the start line
- The other bibs are allocated according to the number of runners of each age category
Apart from the lottery applicants and elite runners, places will be reserved for priority runners (charity bibs, partners, runners registered in 2020, roll-overs of 2021 international runners etc).
