Environnement

As an experienced event organizer, the HOKA UTMB Mont-Blanc has developed numerous actions to protect the natural environment and to raise awareness amongst all the key players. This is a collective action which requires cohesion between the organisation, regional groups, runners and supporters, partners and volunteers (Ambassadors for the Environment).

How to behave in the mountains ?

Both in and out of these zones, you must not leave any trace of your passage. Think also of the fauna and flora that surrounds you: respect their tranquility.

Waste Management and Refreshments

Transporting your waste

Small trash bags are distributed at race-bib distribution, they are for containing used toilet paper and other soiled trash like open gel containers, or plastic that has contained food.

Prioritize the use of rechargeable batteries and if that is not possible, do not abandon used batteries! Special containers to properly dispose of batteries are located at the Aid Stations.

Noise management at the event

The town of Chamonix, which hosts the finish lines of all the races, faced constant noise 24/7 for almost a week, putting a significant burden on valley residents. In order to mitigate this noise nuisance, we implemented strict noise level control measures, achieving significant results:

The environment at the UTMB, all year round

Bilan edition 2023

In 2023, the HOKA UTMB Mont-Blanc implemented aid stations completely devoid of plastic bottles, saving 15,000 units of this material. We had already adopted the use of tap water wherever possible for several years. This year, thanks to the acquisition of carbonating machines, we were able to offer sparkling water and cola from tap water, thus contributing to reducing plastic usage and the need to transport and dispose of plastic bottles.

And tomorrow ?

UTMB for the Planet

UTMB for the Planet

UTMB for the Planet is built on three main pillars – Environment, Territory and People.

We have developed 40 key initiatives with measurable actions that support our 3 pillars. By 2025, we aim to have implemented these initiatives across all UTMB World Series events.
