Reducing carbon emissions and sustainable mobility

-20% CARBON EMISSIONS BY 2030

For over 20 years HOKA UTMB® Mont-Blanc has been committed to minimising its environmental impact.

Here, we outline our latest actions and ambitions

To reach a new milestone we are setting an ambitious collective goal: to REDUCE OUR CARBON EMISSIONS BY 20% BY 2030, compared to 2024 levels, with a primary focus on one of the most significant areas of impact – mobility.

OUR LONGSTANDING COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY

Reducing car use, limiting pollution in the valleys and making the event more accessible via alternative transport have been core aims of our dedicated UTMB Mobility system since its launch in 2004 – this programme continues to grow stronger each year.

How strong is the appeal of the HOKA UTMB Mont-Blanc for the Chamonix Valley?

Through its Think and Do Tank, Geonexio, our partner Transdev conducted a study in 2024 to better understand population flows in the valley and to fine-tune transport services. Using mobile, geographical and sociological data, the study ran from 15 August to 15 September 2024 in central Chamonix.

Findings show an increase of 15,000 people over four days compared with the summer average (+10,000 compared with 15 August), peaking at 22,000 on the Saturday as the first UTMB finishers crossed the line. This week significantly boosts the summer tourism appeal of the Mont-Blanc valleys.

International visitors (62% of whom are European) make up around 60% of attendees during the event, compared with 50% over the rest of the summer. These insights highlight the importance of enhancing public transport links from major airports and railway hubs (Chambéry, Annecy, Lyon, Geneva) as well as improving connections with neighbouring valleys (Saint-Gervais, Val Montjoie, and the Arve Valley in particular).
