INTRODUCING HUMATEM
Founded in 1999 in Les Houches, at the foot of Mont-Blanc, Humatem is an international cooperation NGO specializing in medical equipment. Humatem works with the World Health Organization on this essential issue as an NGO in official relations with the WHO.
Every year, we:
- Support approximately 50 healthcare facilities in 15 countries
- Collect, test, and redistribute more than 1,500 pieces of medical equipment
- Carry out 10 training and technical support missions in the field.
OUR ACTIONS
🌍 Medical Equipment Bank for International Solidarity
We ensure that donated equipment is genuinely useful and reliable. Our European hospital partners entrust us with their decommissioned equipment, which we sort, test, and refurbish in our biomedical workshop before redistributing it to projects we support.
👩🔧 Training and Expertise in the Field
In many developing countries, there are too few biomedical technicians, or they lack access to appropriate training. For more than 10 years, we have been providing biomedical technical training, particularly in French-speaking African countries.
📚 Resource Center
We develop and share practical tools adapted to low-resource settings to help local professionals keep their equipment operational for as long as possible. These include video tutorials available on our YouTube channel.
📢 Awareness and Advocacy
Regular maintenance of medical equipment saves lives and can even reduce costs. Yet healthcare decision-makers in low-income countries still too often view maintenance as an expense and hesitate to invest in it. To raise awareness, we regularly organize or participate in local, national, and international conferences to demonstrate the importance of biomedical equipment management and maintenance.
OUR TEAM
Behind Humatem is a small, dedicated team: 4 employees specializing in biomedical engineering and project management, supported by volunteers, interns, and civic service volunteers. Together, we make medical technologies more accessible where they are needed most! HUMATEM & UTMB Mont-Blanc Based in the heart of the Mont-Blanc region, we have known UTMB since its very beginnings. Humatem initially received support from the Rotary Club through the UTMB refreshment stand.
Since 2023, thanks to charity bibs, we have shared unforgettable moments alongside 4 female runners and 31 male runners taking part in the CCC, OCC, and UTMB!
The Humatem team is also involved as race volunteers, giving us the opportunity to meet and support you directly at aid stations.
