Humatem

We give medical equipment a second life in order to improve access to healthcare in developing countries or countries in crisis by ensuring that healthcare providers have the essential tools to safely diagnose, operate, and treat patients.

HUMATEM PRESENTATION

Founded in Les Houches at the foot of Mont Blanc in 1999, Humatem is an international cooperation NGO specializing in medical equipment. We collaborate with the World Health Organization on this crucial topic as an NGO in official relations with WHO.

Every year, we:

  • Support around 50 healthcare facilities in 15 countries
  • Collect, test, and redistribute over 1,500 high-value medical devices
  • Carry out 10 training and technical support missions in LMICs.

OUR ACTIONS

Bank of medical device donations for international solidarity

We ensure that donated equipment is genuinely useful and reliable. Our European hospital partners entrust us with their decommissioned equipment, which we sort, test, and refurbish in our biomedical workshop before reallocating it to projects we support.

Field Training and Expertise

In many developing countries, biomedical technicians are too few or lack access to proper training. For over 10 years, we have conducted numerous hands-on biomedical training sessions, especially in French-speaking Africa.

Resource Center

We develop and share practical tools adapted to low-resource settings to help local professionals maintain and extend the life of their equipment, including step-by-step video tutorials available on our YouTube channel.

Awareness and Advocacy

Regular maintenance of medical equipment saves lives and even generates long-term savings—but it is still too often seen as an extra cost by health decision-makers in low-income countries. To better inform them, we regularly organize or participate in regional, national, and international conferences to demonstrate the importance of health technology management and maintenance.

OUR TEAM

Behind Humatem is a small, dedicated team: four full-time staff trained in biomedical engineering and project management, supported by volunteers, interns, and civic service members. Together, we make medical technology more accessible where it is needed most!

HUMATEM & HOKA UTMB MONT-BLANC

Being based in the heart of the Mont-Blanc region, we have known the UTMB since its very beginning. Humatem first benefited from the support of the Rotary Club through the UTMB refreshment stand. Since 2023, we have shared incredible moments alongside our 21 charity bib runners on the CCC, OCC, and UTMB! The Humatem team is also active as race volunteers, which gives us the chance to be right there with you at the aid stations. Now it’s your turn—join the “Humatem Team” for UTMB 2026!
