Follow and support your runner
The HOKA UTMB Mont-Blanc is a great trail-running festival. During the week and on the route of the 7 races, all the event's players are mobilised to ensure that runners and their supporters have an extraordinary experience.Supporters and families have numerous tools and plans at their disposal allowing them to follow the races in the best conditions.
Follow the evolution of each runner live through UTMB®Live, information which can also be posted on the runners' Facebook pages or be sent to you via text message (SMS). On each runner's page find the video sequences of their passages in front of the webcams installed along the route and at the finish. Experience the race live via the webcams installed at the main points of passage and the finish. From Wednesday to Sunday, you can follow all the key moments of the races on UTMB® TV with numerous live broadcasts, and on social media (Twitter, Facebook and Instagram).
In Chamonix itself and along the route, everything is done to facilitate the access for families and supporters : exceptional means put in to place for TRANSPORT so as to limit the use of personal vehicles and so reduce our impact upon the environment.
So that you may support your runner while respecting the equity of the races, assistance to runners is subject to strict rules which are explained, below, in the regulations.
Supporters may also consult numerous pieces of information on their dedicated on-line page. Registration is simple and quick and it allows you to receive all the official information sent by the organisation via text message (SMS).

Good to know: You are wondering where to go to see the runner who you are accompanying? You want to know if you have time to get there? Download the application on: Google Play - Apple Store
Runners have two possibilities :
- Rent a tag/beacon so as to be followed during their chosen race. Placed in the pack, it allows family and friends to follow from a distance in real time - recommended for races longer than 10 hours
- Use the free LiveTrail application as a GPS tracker - recommended for races shorter than 10 hours
Rendezvous on UTMB® Live, to see around 15 webcams installed on the different races. At the passage of each participant a video sequence is available live on their runners’ page. You can also see the runner who you are following at any moment and experience the race stage by stage. After the race, it will be possible to download a souvenir video grouping all the clips of the runner.
Assitance and support
Since 2003, we have come a long way! We started with one race with 700 runners: the event now gathers 10,000 runners from 100 nations and 7 races, each one with its own raison d'être. Even if the event is now renowned worldwide, its values have not changed: fair play, respect for people and for nature, hospitality... To ensure that everyone who participates in the UTMB® lives an unforgettable experience, a some rules must be respected along the race itinerary.
Crew Zone
The runners, upon registering, have committed to respecting the regulations. Those accompanying them must do likewise to avoid putting them in the wrong with regard to their commitments.
Reminder: running beside a participant outside of the zones, which are labelled as such in the proximity of the refreshment posts, is strictly forbidden and exposes the runner to a penalty of between 15 and 10 minutes. Concretely this penalty engenders a regression in the ranking and for certain runners it is the risk of not being within the time limit. Be careful not to confuse the zone of accompaniment (several hundred meters before and after each refreshment post, limits of which are clearly marked) with the zone of assistance (the area of the refreshment post reserved for this use). One could state that in the accompaniment zone you may only be accompanied not assisted !
Support Area
Personal assistance is tolerated only at certain refreshment posts, in the zone specifically reserved for this use, upon the presentation of an "Assistance" ticket and upon the agreement of the chief of post. This assistance can only be assured by one single person, without specific equipment other one than one bag of a volume of 30 litres maximum. Assistance given by a team professional, or any other professional person, medical or paramedical – even if they are a parent - is strictly forbidden.
The personal asistance is tolerated in some points :
- UTMB® : Les Contamines-Montjoie, Courmayeur, Champex, Trient, Vallorcine
- CCC® : Champex, Trient, Vallorcine
- TDS® : Bourg St Maurice, Beaufort, Les Contamines-Montjoie
Here are the only posts where you may receive assistance from family or friends. Only family type assistance is tolerated. All assistance at any other point along the route is forbidden. On the OCC and MCC, no asistance will be tolerated on the race route.
1 ticket per assistance post / 1 ticket = 1 person
Following the race leader on the ground
At the request of the elite runners, we would like to remind you that it is essential that they are left to run serenely. Please help ensure that their unique preoccupation is the management of their effort:
- Respect their race space so that they can run without being hampered
- Avoid crowding around a runner so as not to disturb them in their progression and concentration
- Protect their tranquility and the equity of the race
- Respect the regulations: the race stewards are present throughout the race route
