OCC - ALTERNATIVE ROUTE

For several days, we have been closely monitoring the weather conditions and studying all possible scenarios for the start of the OCC scheduled for Thursday, August 28. These decisions are based on a thorough analysis of the situation, with the support of two meteorologists and continuously updated forecasts. Our priority remains the safety of the runners and everyone on the course, while preserving as much as possible the experience and spirit of the OCC.

COURSE – We will be switching to an alternative route in order to avoid the most exposed sections and to ensure better accessibility to the different points along the course, while still guaranteeing a demanding, consistent course that remains faithful to the spirit of the OCC. The start will remain in Orsières, with a 61 km route and 3,400 m of elevation gain.

The main changes are:

  • after Plan de l’Au, descent towards Bovernier, passing through Martigny, then climbing up to the Col de la Forclaz;
  • from Trient, direct ascent to the Col de Balme via Les Herbagères (skipping the section through the Chalet des Grands);
  • from Argentière, return to Chamonix via Le Lavancher and Les Bois without passing through La Flégère.

The updated GPX file is available bellow.

SCHEDULE – The start will take place from 10:15 a.m. with 3 waves: 10:15, 10:30 and 10:45, in order to minimize the runners’ exposure to the storm expected early in the morning. As a result, the entire race setup will be shifted by two hours: shuttle times, start waves, and live broadcast.

CUT-OFF TIMES – These have been adjusted according to the new route and are now updated on the official website. We encourage each runner to check them carefully before the start.

MANDATORY KIT – As a reminder, the mandatory OCC equipment corresponds to the basic kit, with the addition of waterproof overpants and waterproof gloves.

Thank you for your understanding. We encourage you to stay vigilant for yourselves and others under these conditions, and we wish you a great race.
